Bring your furry friends to visit Santa! Both cats and dogs are welcome to get their holiday picture with Santa Claus. In return for a suggested donation of just $5 to the Humane Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh, you will receive a commemorative photo instantly by email. 

Santa will be in our pop-up Christmas space next to Jimmy John’s from 2 PM to 6 PM.

Please be prepared for long lines. Check out our Pictures with Santa Event for kids of all ages on Friday, December 8th and Saturday, December 9th!

FREE parking for three hours is available in the parking garage!

A much-loved Christmas tradition offered by Pittsburgh Concert Chorale and St. Brendan’s Church, Franklin Park. We invite all those in the Greater Pittsburgh area who love to sing, or to listen, to come with family and friends to recreate selections from Handel’s sacred masterpiece. With 14-piece orchestra and soloists, Under the baton of PCC Music Director, Dr. Susan Medley. This event features the audience performing choruses (and some solos), singing with great fervor and robust sound – without rehearsal!

Music scores will be loaned to those who do not have a copy. A cookie reception at intermission will provide a time to rest the voice and to mingle with the singers and instrumentalists.

No tickets, no admission fee, no reservations. (Baskets will be provided for a free will offering.) Come early and sit with your voice section or join others just to listen!

The Pittsburgh Camerata Presents “Magnificat (Bach!) and More” @ Shadyside Presbyterian Church | Pittsburgh | Pennsylvania | United States

Magnificat is a 30 minute vocal canticle considered among the grandest  illustrations of Bach’s genius. The Camerata will be joined by Chatham Baroque and guests to present this popular vocal work.  Artistic Director Mark Anderson has also programmed a cappella choral music around the traditional theme of Mary as a Rose, which is the narrative of Mary bringing forth a child.

  • The program includes: 2 settings of Es is ein Ros entsprungen (Lo, How a Rose is Blooming) by Michael Prätorious/ Jan Sandström (1571-1621)/(b. 1954) and Heinrich von Herzogenberg (1843-1900)
  • 2 settings of There Is No Rose of Such Virtue by John Joubert (b. 1937) and Randall Giles (1950-2010)
  • Es ist ein Ros entsprungen by Michael Praetorious/Hugo Distler (1908-1942)
  • 2 settings of A Spotless Rose by Paul Mealor (b. 1975) and Ola Gjello (b. 1978)
  • Magnificat in D (BWV 243) by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) with Chatham Baroque and guests
  • My Lord Has Come by Will Todd (b. 1970)

In the spirit of Fred Rogers’ lessons of helping others, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh holds an annual Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive each winter. Since 2001, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh has collected more than 35,500 sweaters, distributing them to families in need throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania.

2017 community partners include the Presbyterian Churches of the Tri-State Area, Homeless Children’s Education Fund, Veteran’s Leadership Program of Western PA and Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh Ambassadors.

Donations of new or gently worn sweaters may be dropped off in the collection bin in the Children’s Museum lobby from November 9 – December 15.

Winter Hike and Bird Count for Kids @ Brookline Recreation Center

Learn to use binoculars, identify common winter birds, and collect data to help with bird conservation efforts with Citiparks. Explore the outdoors for birds and enjoy games, snacks, and hot chocolate!

Space is limited and registration is required. This event is for kids ages 10+ and their adults.

We recommend dressing warmly and bringing binoculars if you have them!

Winter Tree Hike in McKinley Park @ McKinley Activities Center

Experience the beauty of the winter season in McKinley Park! Join Tree Pittsburgh’s Joe Stavish on a hike in the park to look at the magnificent trees that in this 80-acre park, followed by a traditional treat that will warm you up.

Please not that this hike will be on wider park trail. Comfortable, sturdy shoes and warm layers are encouraged. All ages welcome.

Hike with a Naturalist: Water Wonderland @ Frick Environmental Center

In winter most of the forest is dormant, but streams are often beautifully decorated with snow and ice; their hidden abundant life can be an inspiring reminder of nature’s strength and variety, as well as an indication of ecosystem health.

Join Naturalist Educator Stephen Bucklin on a hike through Frick Park to observe streams in their winter beauty and learn about the diverse life crawling and squirming beneath the surface

Registration is required for this event.

This is an all-ages, rain-or-shine event. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Weather-appropriate clothes and footwear with good tread are encouraged. Hike will meet at the Frick Environmental Center.
