What is Krampusnacht?

The Feast of St. Nicholas is celebrated in parts of Europe on 6 December.On the preceding evening of December 5, Krampus Night or Krampusnacht, the Krampus appears on the streets. Sometimes accompanying St. Nicholas and sometimes on his own, Krampus visits homes and businesses.The Saint usually appears in the Eastern Rite vestments of a bishop, and he carries a golden ceremonial staff. Unlike North American versions of Santa Claus, in these celebrations Saint Nicholas concerns himself only with the good children, while Krampus is responsible for the bad. Nicholas dispenses gifts, while Krampus supplies coal and the ruten bundles.
In German-speaking Alpine folklore, Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure. According to traditional narratives around the figure, Krampus punishes children during the Christmas season who have misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards well-behaved ones with gifts.

14th Annual Cookie Walk @ St. Peter & St. Paul's Ukranian Church Carnegie

The St. Matrona Sisterhood announces its 14th Annual Cookie Walk to be held Saturday, December 9th from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Homemade cookies and specialty pastries will fill the church hall located on Mansfield Blvd in Carnegie (just off the 79 exit). Some of our featured cookies will include nut crescents, fruit filled kolache, Ukrainian truffles, Italian rum balls, almond cookies, Hamentaschen and Russian tea cakes along with hundreds of beautifully decorated holiday favorites. Nut rolls, lady locks, biscotti, pizzelles and gluten free cookies will also be available.

The assortment will amaze you!! Cookies will be sold by the pound. Proceeds from the “Cookie Walk” enable the Sisterhood to continue its maintenance and beautification projects of the church, a Pittsburgh National Landmark Building, as well as support our many community outreach programs.

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, December 9th and join hte hundreds of Pittsburghers who have already made this event a holiday family tradition!

Keyla Cooks Brazilian Pop-Up Series at Plate & Bowl is coming to an end with “Beleza” Brunch on December 10.

This series mingles together a diverse menu full of Brazilian flavors from traditional to home cooking styles of dishes—bringing Pittsburgh a true representation of Keyla’s work through her Brazilian cuisine.

Brunch will be divided in 2 sets: 11-12:30pm and 12:30-2pm (Food is the same for both times). When purchasing your ticket, choose the time you would like to attend.

Should I buy a ticket or pay at the door?

Buying your ticket in advance will guarantee that you can join if we are close to capacity. If you arrive and there aren’t any tables available, you might need to wait to enter the brunch area.

Ticket Prices:

Adults: $14

Children (5-12 years old): $7

Children (0-5 years old): Free

A much-loved Christmas tradition offered by Pittsburgh Concert Chorale and St. Brendan’s Church, Franklin Park. We invite all those in the Greater Pittsburgh area who love to sing, or to listen, to come with family and friends to recreate selections from Handel’s sacred masterpiece. With 14-piece orchestra and soloists, Under the baton of PCC Music Director, Dr. Susan Medley. This event features the audience performing choruses (and some solos), singing with great fervor and robust sound – without rehearsal!

Music scores will be loaned to those who do not have a copy. A cookie reception at intermission will provide a time to rest the voice and to mingle with the singers and instrumentalists.

No tickets, no admission fee, no reservations. (Baskets will be provided for a free will offering.) Come early and sit with your voice section or join others just to listen!
